The Onyx Vehicle Laptop Mount

…is the epitome of smart, compact, multipurpose and universal laptop mounting solutions. “Why?” you may ask. Well, lets break it down.


Smart – The Onyx laptop mount is designed with style in mind but also rigidity and size. The adjustable joints are internally spring loaded and toothed. This allows the simple hand knob to be unscrewed and the mount can easily be adjusted. Some imitators of the Onyx laptop mount use the same looking joints but what you can’t see is the poor metal or weak plastic teeth within that will prematurely lead to being stripped and useless in no time. Also, they lack the spring loaded feature which means when the knob is loosened you still will have to manually spread the two halves apart with both hands before being able to adjust. The Onyx laptop mount’s superior spring and tough metal tooth design allows for smooth, quick adjusting when the knob is loosened. These adjustable joints contribute to the unbelievable amount of adjust-ability for many different applications and vehicles.

Another smart feature adding to the adjust-ability is the Onyx laptop mount’s unique tripod style swiveling head. This head is located at the top of the mount. It boasts locking tilt, rock, and swivel action and can be used to hold a number of things. The laptop tray simply screws on to this head for holding laptops. When the tray is taken off  any digital camera or video camera can simply be screwed on to it just like any normal tripod. Also, with the optional LCD monitor bracket (ACS-01) screwed onto the swivel head you can hold an LCD monitor.

The Onyx laptop  mount features two telescoping sections of the body in it’s design as well. These  are adjusted and locked buy a simple and effective thumb latch. These telescoping segments allow for the the mounts height / length to be adjusted, but also adds to the laptop mounts adjust-ability. Not only does it allow telescoping, but it also adds two points of 360 degree rotational adjustment.

The laptop mount tray is another ingenious part of this mount. The tray is made of strong naturally cool aluminum, but also has a series of holes in it to allow for extra air reaching your laptops vents located on the bottom for ideal operating temperatures to be maintained.

Compact – The Onyx brand laptop mount has a compact design with a small footprint. It is composed of a triple segmented arm, swivel head and the foot. The foot to the Onyx laptop mount simply slides over the supplied “nub” like bracket that is simply attached to a vehicles seat bolt, or any bolt for that matter. Also, there is an optional drill mount bracket (ACS-03) that has this very same “nub” as previously mentioned. This drill mount is for people who would like a permanent mount in their vehicle or for an out of vehicle installation. The ACS-02 C-Clamp bracket also has this same “nub” on it and is an alternative to the drill mount for out of vehicle installations.

The Onyx laptop mount can be folded down to about the size of an umbrella folded up (except for the tray) and can be removed from the car in literally 10 seconds or less.

Multipurpose- The Onyx laptop mount was designed with multipurpose in mind. The mount can be used to hold your laptop in your vehicle for mobile computing. This is more than apparent. The surprising thing about the Onyx laptop mount, though, is that it also can be used to hold LCD monitors. With the ACS-01 LCD bracket it can be held as seen here, and combine that with the ACS-02 C-clamp bracket and it can be held as seen here.

Earlier in this article we had also talked about cameras and camcorders being used on the mount. This is a feature that can be used without anything more than just the Onyx laptop mount (CLH-100A). You can see this in action here (the 3rd picture on the right).

The uses for this mount are endless. More accessories and options for the Onyx brand mounts are always in the works. Before you know it your Onyx laptop mount will have yet another use when the next accessory comes out. These modular accessories are relatively affordable and easy to apply.

Universal- The Onyx brand laptop mounts are supremely universal. What is something all vehicles almost always have? Seat bolts. The bolts that hold the seats in your car are the very same sturdy bolts that will hold your Onyx laptop mount in your car. Included in the mount’s kit are brackets of various angles which are selected based on the one that will suit your application best. Once the bracket is selected it is simply mounted to the floor of your vehicle with one of your vehicle’s seat bolts. Once installed you will only have a small “nub” right near the seat bolt where you will simply slip your mount over and lock it down. Once locked the mount will be plenty sturdy enough to suit all your mobile computing needs.
